As you may or may not know, I am currently on a bit of a work sabbatical. Really, I’m just on a long (hopefully temporary) vacation. As such, I have sought out a number of things to keep me busy in my new home. My latest ‘task’ is thrifting. In the spirit of Macklemore, “I’m gonna pop some tags, Only got twenty dollars in my pocket, I – I – I’m hunting, looking for a come-up, This is f**king awesome.” And it is, f**king awesome, and addicting!
It wasn’t something I was anticipating, but being in Boulder, I had to seek out some hiking and winter shoes, and in the process, discovered that they are some damn expensive treads if you’re buying new! So I hit up eBay, and found a handful of thrift stores in the area and the hunt was on.
Now, a couple pairs of shoes later, I am becoming a hiking shoe expert. Granted, most of my knowledge is of shoes that were put out some five or ten years ago, but hey, if you’re looking for some good quality shoes for hitting the trails, I’m your man!
I can’t say it’s really something that will turn into a profitable habit, as I turn my thrifting into resaling, but it does keep my business mind a bit sharper than watching ESPN all day (not that I’ve done that…completely, totally, really). And where it will lead, who knows? But it’s a fun hobby for now, and we’ll see where it leads.
